Daniel Thorell (born December 6th 1997) from Stockholm, Sweden, started playing the cello at the age of five and is currently studying with professor Torleif Thedéen at The Royal Academy of Music-Edsberg Castle in Stockholm.

Previous teachers have been Elisabeth Lysell Bjermkvist and
the Swedish cello soloist Jakob Koranyi.

Daniel has won 1:st prize in national and international competitions such as the prestigious ”Polstjärnepriset”, ”Giovani Talenti”, ”Stockholm International Music Competition” etc.
He has recieved numerous scholarships from The Royal Academy of Music, Royal Festivals and many more.


Daniel has taken part in Master Classes with prominent artists like Jens Peter Maintz, Marko Ylönen, Danjulo Ishizaka, Antonio Meneses, Maria Kliegel, Natalie Clein amongst others.
As an 11-year-old, Daniel played as a soloist with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Celebration of World Childhood Foundation´s 20th birthday 2010 and with the Royal Stockholm Symphony Orchestra honouring Yo-Yo Ma at The Polar Prize Award Ceremony 2012.

Daniel has also performed solo in other big events, e.g. Copenhagen Summer Festival, Musik vid Siljan, Stockholm Water Prize Royal Ceremony, Right Livelihood Award Ceremony, Winners recital at Carnegie Hall, New York
Several of those above have been broadcasted live in Swedish Television.
Daniel plays on a cello generously on a loan from The Järnåker Foundation.
